Contact MeKris Grymonpré I am a middle school teacher specializing in Mathematics and Science. After graduating from MIT with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, I taught both subjects for four years at the Christa McAuliffe Regional Charter Public School in Framingham, MA. After teaching for four years at the charter school, I enrolled in the Teacher Leadership strand of the School Leadership Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Check out my Harvard Page for more information. Currently, I teach 7th grade Math and Science at the Young Achievers Science and Mathematics Pilot School in the Boston Public Schools. At the charter school, I designed most of my own curriculum, some of which can be found online using the menu to the left. The project I am most proud of is the cladogram my students constructed on our classroom ceiling in spring 2007. A cladogram is a scientific diagram showing the evolutionary relationships between different organisms. Each student selected an animal to study and to create a stencil for. As part of our class work to understand evolution and cladograms, we traveled to New York City to visit the American Museum of Natural History. There, students had detailed worksheets to fill out about their animals, the traits they had evolved, and their close relatives according to evolution. When we returned from our three-day experience, the students wrote up their research and created an artistic cladogram for our classroom ceiling. Don't miss the online version here. I initially became involved in teaching through magic. As a child, I was involved in a local club that taught kids magic tricks. Over the years, I became quite skilled, helping the club by performing shows and eventually teaching my own class. In the classroom, I welcome magic as a way to build classroom culture; to introduce the concepts of rubrics, revision, and quality work to my students; and to hook the students into math and science topics. I have taught several courses at Boston's Museum of Science where students learn math and science content through magic tricks, and the Boston Teacher Residency (through Boston Public Schools) has also hired me as a consultant to provide a workshop on using magic in the classroom. Prior to teaching, I conducted research on several chemistry-related topics, which resulted in a patent and a published paper.
