Gnathostomes

The gnathostomes are animals that have developed the trait of a jaw. Gnathostomes have the advantage of caching prey more easily. In addition they provide anchorage for powerful muscles in the mouth. Some examples of animals that have evolved a jaw are a placoderm, whale, and seagull.
