Marginocephalians

The node I was assigned was Marginocephalians. The actual trait was a boney ridge on the back of the skull. For example, the stegoceras has a shelf on the back of its head with small boney spikes on it. The advantage of this trait is unknown. Three animals that have this trait are the stegoceras, psittacosaurus, and triceratops. I wonder what was the purpose of the trait?
